Thai pusam purnima, 23rd January 2016 brought a beautiful sacred Full Moon evening at Purna Vidya Foundation as busloads of women & children arrived at the ashram from the nearby villages to perform ‘The Vellukku Puja – Sacred Lamp Puja’.
A beautiful altar was created with the Goddess representing Goddess Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasaraswati and dozens of lamps were lit for the prayers. With great devotional fervor, the women offered the prayers to Mother Goddess, seeking the wellbeing of their families, village and society at large. It was the most exhilarating experience for all. While the women did their prayers, the children also happily created their own little altars and joyously learnt the art of performing their own pujas.
The event concluded with prasada distribution for all present. The women shared with joy the peace and tranquility they experienced during the collective puja. Thrilled that the ashram would conduct the puja every full moon day, the women and children went back to their homes with great enthusiasm for their return, so that they can become regular participants in the ashram’s learning programs.
