Verses – from 1 to 24 (# 288-297)

The chapter 10 of Bhagavad Gita begins with presenting God’s glories in brief and the result of that knowledge. It talks of the devotees of God, who is in the form of the Universe, and the result of such devotion. When Arjuna requests for elaborating the same, Lord Krishna concludes the chapter after elaborating the Divine glories in the universe.

The chapter 16 of the Bhagavad Gita discusses the two fold qualities in a human being, the daivi sampatti, the Divine qualities and the asuri sampatti, the non-divine qualities. The latter is elaborated by discussing how the asuri sampatti misleads a person and brings about his destruction. It teaches one to avoid the asuri and adopt the daivi sampatti. It is the latter which qualifies one for Self knowledge, which is essential to one’s happiness. The chapter concludes presenting the importance of the scriptures.

The chapter 8 of the Bhagavad Gita begins with a discussion on why and how to remember the Lord at the time of death and the practice of upasana at the time of death. It discusses the nature of God and compares the attainment of Godhood with other achievements. The chapter concludes with a discussion on the travel of the soul through the bright path and the dark path.

The chapter 7 of the Bhagavad Gita discusses the Nature of God and the knowledge of God. It describes the cause of samsara, affliction, and its solution. The chapter elaborates on the different types of people such as the atheists and theists. Devotion with its worldly motives and its limitations is discussed and finally the chapter concludes with the five stages of devotion, glorifying the wise person as the greatest devotee.

The Chapter 5 of Bhagavad Gita describes the two life-styles. It elaborates on Karma yoga and its result. It also describes the wise person and wisdom in general. The section concludes with the nature of Detachment and presents what is videha-mukti, liberation after the fall of the body.
