I come and sit still by your banks
O! Ganga, Our Mother Divine.
You purify my whole being
With your gentle touch.
You are ‘Shakti’
The Universal Energy.
In your presence all my fears
And doubts get washed away.
From afar I hear the Divine Call
And my heart dances with joy.
It spreads its wings
And crosses all barriers
Touching the dim edge of eternity.
Non-Duality has become a reality
And Duality an Illusion!
How blessed I am, O Mother
To have come Home to the banks
Of wisdom and peace.
Ma Ganga is no ordinary river – She is a living Goddess, revered by millions across the world. Her divine descent through the locks of Lord Shiva is one of the most sacred stories of our tradition. Like a mother, She creates, nourishes, and sustains life on every level – physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual.
She has cradled the Vedic civilization and remains the very heartbeat of Sanātana Dharma. Her glory is celebrated throughout the Vedas and śāstras, and upheld by countless sages and ācāryas across time. From afar, devotees invoke Her in prayer, yearning for Her darśan and the purifying grace of Her waters. Pilgrims travel thousands of miles for a sacred bath, seeking release from pāpas and a deeper spiritual connection.
Ma Ganga is not only a physical river – She is Jñāna-Ganga, the River of Knowledge, whose banks have nurtured the heritage of the Vedas and whose presence continues to purify us, inside and out.
Rooted in reverence for Ma Ganga and the sacred Himalayan landscape, Purna Vidya Foundation has been serving the villages of the Ganga Valley through integrated initiatives in education, empowerment, ecology, cultural preservation, and disaster relief. What began as a spiritual offering has grown into a compassionate movement touching every aspect of rural life in this sacred region.
Each year during Ganga Dusshera, Purna Vidya conducts Balikā Vidyā Dānam, supporting academically gifted girls from government schools with fees, books, and learning essentials.
Our ongoing initiatives include daily tuition, nutritious evening meals, and uniforms for underprivileged children in nearby villages. We also support financially struggling village schools, ensuring that no child is denied the right to learn.
Purna Vidya offers regular Annadānam to village children, especially during festivals and sacred observances, nurturing both body and spirit.
In times of natural calamities such as floods and landslides, the ashram extends emergency food relief, ensuring that no one in the community goes hungry.
Purna Vidya supports income-generating initiatives for village women through knitting, paper bag making, and handcrafted products.
We also provide sewing and knitting machines, along with free three-month training programs, empowering girls and women with the skills needed for economic independence and self-sustenance.
The “Ganga-se-Ghar-Tak” initiative cultivates ecological awareness and hygiene, connecting the purity of Ma Ganga’s banks to daily life in village homes.
To honor the sacredness of the Gangetic belt, environmental signboards have been installed from Gangotri to Uttarkashi, reminding locals and pilgrims alike of their shared responsibility.
Youth-led programs like the Varnavrat Mountain Cleanup and eco-yatras blend pilgrimage with environmental action, inspiring a generation of conscious caretakers of the Earth.
Relief & Rehabilitation in Crisis
In the wake of the 2013 Kedarnath floods, Purna Vidya was among the first to reach remote villages, providing tents, food, clothing, medicines, and emotional support to affected families.
Similar aid was extended during the 2012 Uttarkashi cloudburst and other natural disasters, with continued medical relief and rehabilitation efforts ensuring care and recovery for those most in need.
In response to the severe Himalayan winter of 2018, Purna Vidya donated over 75 cows to families across the Upper Taknaur region, after hundreds of cattle perished in the cold.
This sacred act of Godānam helped revive the agrarian economy, restoring livelihoods, food security, and dignity to rural households dependent on cattle for survival.
Celebrations like Ganga Dashahara, Navaratri, and Ma Ganga Awareness Programs bring communities together in joy, devotion, and cultural pride.
Hosted annually at Tapasyālayam Ashram, these gatherings welcome hundreds, strengthening the living bond between the land, river, and our timeless traditions.
The worship of Nāgadevatās and village deities is more than tradition – it is a sacred link to the higher realms, sustaining the spiritual vitality of the Himalayan communities.
Purna Vidya nurtures these ancient practices, helping preserve and celebrate this unbroken spiritual legacy – an enduring expression of Bharat’s divine cultural heritage.
Living by the sacred banks of Ma Ganga, Ammaji was deeply inspired to create the 23-volume Purna Vidya series – a comprehensive life offering on Self-Awakening and Cultural Wisdom.
Her enduring connection with Ma Ganga continues to guide and inspire the seva carried out along the river She honors as the Divine Mother of our civilization.
